"Spreading the love of the church and our gifts from God to those in need in the community" The Social Ministry Team sponsors a variety of activities throughout the calendar year. These currently include "SoBER Sunday" (a monthly canned goods collection on behalf of South Baltimore Emergency Relief, a non-profit social ministry agency in our community), a school supply drive, and a hat/mitten tree. Here's what's been going on lately..... "HAMS FOR THE HUNGRY" Salem sponsors an annual spring drive to collect canned hams for distribution by SoBER to those in need in our community. "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR" GATHERING Join Pastor Jacob and members and friends in the community at a local establishment to discuss selected faith topics. Contact Pastor Jacob for more information. MALARIA CAMPAIGN A special collection was taken up on September 23rd in support of this ELCA effort. Donations currently total $238. We are also collecting toiletries for residents at South Baltimore Station, a facility offering transitional housing for men. Salem has also committed to provide a meal at South Baltimore Station on the second Monday of every month. We will supply casseroles, salad and desserts. We welcome new participants on an ongoing basis to help in a variety of ways, whether it be serving, cooking or baking. Please contact the church office if you are interested in joining this monthly ministry. SOUTH BALTIMORE EMERGENCY RELIEF SoBER is in continuing need of non-perishable food, especially smooth peanut butter, soup and tuna. SoBER's clientele grows weekly. Food donations may be placed in the blue bin near the office entry or brought to the church the first Sunday of the month. WORLD HUNGER We participate in the church-wide ministry of feeding hungry people by observing World Hunger Sunday and sending donations to ELCA World Hunger. |
