THE HANDWRITTEN BIBLE

Adventure, mystery and the surprising history of the New Testament

9:00 AM in the Bethany Room (parlor)

Presented by Gary Kulik

For centuries people knew the Bible only through hearing it read aloud in worship. Many people could not read, and copies of the Bible were precious and scarce.

At first, scripture was written on scrolls. When the gospels were written down, they were assembled in codices -- pages attached together in the very first books.

Preserved in ancient libraries and monasteries, and even hidden in caves, these handwritten Bibles bring us closer to the word of God as first recorded. Come learn more about the exciting discoveries of these early Bibles and how they shaped the Bible as we know it.

Previous topics have included:

bulletThe gospel of Judas
bulletThe strange career of Mary Magdalene
bulletWorkshop of spirituality and meditation
bulletThe parables of Jesus
bulletDiscussion of Henri Nouwen's classic Return of the Prodigal Son
bulletGary Wills' book What Jesus Meant
