Date TBD -- "TWO FAITHS, ONE FAMILY"

He’s Jewish and she’s Catholic. He’s a non-denominational Christian and she’s a Lutheran. He was raised Baptist but now he’s a Buddhist, and his partner is an Episcopalian. She’s a Presbyterian, sort of, inching back to church, and her partner’s strongly opposed to all organized religion. And hey, it was all good…until the baby came along.

Her parents are concerned that the baby hasn’t been baptized. His parents are relieved the baby’s a girl…no bris to contend about. Their friends want to know whether it’s Christmas or Hanukkah or Kwanza or Diwali at their house.

Are you one of the many couples with two faiths in your family? You’ve invited to meet others in interfaith partnerships to talk about raising kids. Scheduling to be decided by mutual convenience of those who are interested. Proposed agenda for three to five sessions:

  1. How did we get here? Sharing and exploring individual faith journeys
  2. What do we want for our children? What kind of religious education and experience, faith formation, appreciation of cultural diversity?
  3. Rituals and family life—yours, mine, ours?
  4. Flash points and difficult conversations. Dealing with responses and desires of relatives and friends.
  5. Looking ahead—answering and anticipating children’s questions. Who are we and where do we belong?

Interested? Please call church office (410-576-0487) or e-mail Pastor Barbara Melosh.

Future topics to be listed as they are announced.
